Rona on Banjo, Laurie on Fiddle, Sean on Guitar & Vocals

What does your act consist of?

It can be solo, duo or a band, whichever suits your needs and or budget.

>Top

What does your solo act consist of?

Myself and guitar performing a wide range of Irish ballads and other styles (See my setlist). I do NOT use backing tracks. This is an ideal set up for small bars, clubs and functions. It's the format I use mostly when playing abroad in the Canaries, etc.

>Top

What does your duo act consist of?

Myself and a Fiddler or Banjo player.

>Top

What does your band consist of?

Myself with two additional musicians such as a Fiddler,an Accordianist, Banjo player or Bodhran player.

>Top

What's the benefit of booking your duo or band instead of your solo act?

The overall sound is fuller because of the additional instruments. The added benefit is that a duo or band can also perform Irish Jigs and Reels. But, the solo works fine in most places and of course the Irish duo or band involves extra cost!

>Top

What type of music and songs do you play?

Essentially Irish but with a mixture to suit a more varied audience where needed. Best thing is to go to my songlist to see exactly which songs are included in my repertoire. With the Duo and Band we can also play Traditional tunes, Jigs, Reels, the Siege of Ennis etc.

Do you work to a rigid, pre arranged 'set list'?

No, I don't really believe in them. I watch the crowd at the gig and try to play to their mood. Each gig and crowd is different. For example sometimes lots of ballads and slow stuff like, 'Green Fields of France', 'Only Our Rivers Run Free', and suchlike work great, whereas another crowd would find that a but down and dreary. I try to mix it up and use light and shade by taking the tempo up and down. I keep it simple, I just try to work the crowd.

>Top

Do you use backing tracks?

Never. Nothing against them just prefer the realness and feel of the live thing.

>Top

Do you do Irish Rebel songs?

Yes but ONLY when that's specified by the person who books me.  I don't do them in any environment where they will offend people. I can sing lots of them including Kevin Barry, Sean South, Joe McDonnell, etc,  To see the list of the ones I can do go to my songlist.

>Top

Can we choose the songs played at the booking?

Certainly, as long as it's on my songlist. Just let me know at the time of booking your preferences, but you can always let me know on the night. I don't use songsheets so if they're on the list no problem. If you have a song NOT on the list and it's a special song wanted for the night, let me know at the time of booking and I'll learn it for you. Within reason of course! Bohemian Rhapsody or The Birdie Song need not apply!

>Top

How can we hear what you sound like?

Just go to samplers.

>Top

Can we see your songlist?

Yes, just go to setlist.

>Top

Do you sing your own songs at gigs?

Yes, but mainly on request. The main part of my standard gig is covers.

>Top

Do you sound the same live as on your albums?

If I'm solo it's very acoustic based and of course the melody intruments on the albums are missing. It still works really well though. When it's a duo or band it sounds fuller of course.

>Top

How long do you play for?

A normal gig is between 2 to 2.5 hours with a break. Weddings are sometimes up to 3 hours. Working abroad is normally a minimum of 3 x 45 minutes sets and in the USA this can be 4 x sets. This is all clarified at the time of booking.

>Top

Can you do pop covers like Abba. The Rolling Stones, etc?

Hmmm, not really. I can do lots of country songs by Hank Williams, John Denver, George Strait, George Jones, Garth Brooks, etc and a few contemporary numbers by Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, Eagles, etc, but apart from that I'm mainly Irish.

>Top

How much does it cost to book you as a solo?

Depends on where, when, how long, etc. Best thing is to give me all the details via the enquiry form and you'll get a reply with availability and a quote very quickly. My solo act is obviously the least expensive option.

>Top

How much does it cost to book your duo or band?

Depends on where, when, how long, etc. Best thing is to give me all the details via the enquiry form and you'll get a reply with availability and a quote very quickly. The more musicians I get to to work with me increases cost, but the solo or duo is fine for the vast majority of gigs that I do.

>Top

How far do you travel to?

As long as the terms are right I travel anywhere on the planet from Kilburn to Timbuktoo! Always up for new experiences.

>Top

Do you play abroad?

Yes, I love to travel and always welcome enquiries from different countries. If it's say a bar in Lanzarote or Southern Spain I'd need an in house pa and accomodation provided. It's all negotiable so email me with any query and I'll get right back to you.

>Top

When playing a residency do you play the same stuff every night?

Never. I don't plan ahead at any gig and work hard at playing to the crowd. Every night and every crowd is different. You can win or lose an audience very quickly with the right or wrong songs. I have plenty of songs to vary the material each night.

>Top

Can we come and hear you play before we book you?

Of course, just go to my news-gigs section to see where you can hear me next. If the date is near I can't of course guarantee that I'll still be free for your date at the time you come along and perhaps want to book me. The easiest way to hear me is to go to my samplers and  buy cds pages on this site and also visit my setlist.

Do you have your own PA system?

Yes. I normally bring my own pa to gigs except when the venue has one already or I'm playing abroad.

>Top

How do we enquire about booking you?

You can use the online enquiry form, send an email or call me. Whichever way I promise a prompt reply. I travel a lot but always have my laptop and mobile with me. To see my current phone number details just go to contact.

>Top

Do you back singers?

Well sometimes yes, but generally no. I only let singers up on rare occasions. It can be problematic for all sorts of reasons and I tend to body-swerve it. If it's a wedding or private function where that's a specific part of the bookers requirements, no problem.

>Top

Do you sing at funerals?

Yes. I normally play alone with my acoustic guitar at the graveside or at the service. I also play with my duo at functions afterwards too.

>Top

Do you play at weddings?

Yes, normally several a year. Usually that's a duo or trio affair.

>Top

How do we book and pay you?

When you book me it's contracted to include all of the details, date, times, format, (even the songs required can be included) fee, etc. I can email the contract for you to sign and return by mail or if you like you can sign, scan and email it back to me. A deposit for weddings or private functions is normal with the balance of the fee payable on the night.

>Top

Where can I buy your CDs?

They're available from lots of retail websites and shops but the easiest way is to get them via my online shop.
